Daten und Wahrscheinlichkeiten/ Data and Probability – A New Course Format This Semester

Hello,

This semester, the course Data and Probability will be offered in a new format. We are piloting a teaching concept in which the lecture content is covered in a concentrated first phase of the semester, leaving more time in the second phase for independent study, practice, and consolidation of the material.

How is the course structured?

First Part of the Semester: Block Lecture Phase

During the first part of the semester, the lecture content will be covered in a concentrated block. This will allow you to gain an overview of the entire course material, including its main topics and key concepts, at an early stage of the semester.

Second Part of the Semester: Independent Study and Consolidation

During the second part of the semester, there will be no regular lectures. Instead, this phase is dedicated to consolidating and practicing the material covered in the first part. There will be Tutorials and you will have time to review topics independently, work through exercises, clarify questions, and deepen your understanding of the course content.

The aim of this format is to give you more time for active learning and focused exam preparation. Rather than introducing new material until the end of the semester, the entire course content will be covered early on. This gives you the opportunity to work through the topics at your own pace and practice them thoroughly before the exam, which will take place during the regular examination period.

Who is teaching the course?

This semester, the course will be taught by Navid Hashemi. Dr. Hashemi is an Associate Professor at the College of Charleston in the United States. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science, specializing in Data Science, from the University of Georgia.

His research interests include artificial intelligence, data mining, the Internet of Things (IoT), and the application of data-driven methods in environmental and health sciences. He also has teaching experience in data science, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. For more information about his academic background and research interests, please visit his faculty profile at the College of Charleston.

We look forward to trying out this new course format with you and wish you a successful semester in Data and Probability!

P.S.: A Learnweb course will be made available in the coming days. Further information and course materials will be provided there.

Mitstreiter für Startup-Projektseminar "Comitio.eu" gesucht!

Hallo,

Business Contacts

Dear Students,

There are only a few days left until our department's internal career fair. On May 29th, Business Contacts will once again take place in the courtyard of our department, offering one of the best opportunities of the year to speak directly with companies. Whether you're looking for an internship, a working student position, a thesis project, or a direct entry into the workforce, the fair gives you personal access to the right contacts,  something no job portal can replace.

To help you make the most of the day, we would like to remind you of our accompanying offerings:

Talentefinder – Preparation starts before the fair

The Talentefinder web app gives you the opportunity to get an overview of the participating companies ahead of time. Similar to targeted online dating, you can filter companies according to your personal preferences and, when there's a match, arrange a personal meeting slot for the day of the fair directly. You can register right away via this link.

Application Photo & CV Check – ready to launch your application

Don't have all your documents together yet? That's no reason to skip the fair, quite the opposite! On-site, we offer a professional application photo service with an experienced photographer, at a student-friendly price of just €10. If you also have your CV reviewed by the experts from A.S.I. Wirtschaftsberatung, you'll even receive an additional discount on the photo. Payment is by cash or invoice, and once payment is received, you'll get your application photo digitally. You can reserve a time slot online now to avoid potential waiting times on the day of the fair.

Mentoring Program & Eve Dinner – for those who want to go deeper

If you'd like to go beyond the typical fair interaction, our mentoring program gives you the chance to act as a direct point of contact for individual companies, helping you build lasting professional relationships. All mentors are also guaranteed access to the exclusive eve dinner on May 28th at the A2 Restaurant, where company representatives who have already arrived can be met in a relaxed atmosphere — an excellent opportunity for initial, informal conversations.

Can't make it on the day of the fair, or interested in the evening program? Feel free to apply for one of the remaining spots still available. All registration details can be found here.

We look forward to seeing you on May 29th and wish you every success in your conversations.

Kind regards,

Ronja Dobler
