Münsterhack 2021

The Münsterhack 2021 took place on September 25 and 26. Within these 36 hours, the tech scene in Münster came together and developed ideas and prototypes to make Münster even more liveable. Armin Stein and Nina Herrmann were on site as mentors and supported the participants both technically and as advisors.

Meanwhile, a project seminar of our institute took part in the Hackathon this year. Unlike a “traditional” project seminar in which the project idea usually comes from a partner company, in this special seminar, our students could generate and implement their own creative ideas. They developed a blood donation app for the University Hospital Münster (German: Das Universitätsklinikum Münster, UKM), which enables blood donors to book appointments online. Previously, it was only possible to make donation appointments by phone. Due to the Covid-19, there was a severe blood shortage and it was difficult for UKM to find more donors. Therefore, the project group came up with the idea of an app that facilitates donations through the internet.

Within 36 hours’ Hackathon, the project group implemented and pitched their idea at the final event. They won second place from the public and third place from the jury. Congratulations!

The project idea will be continuously developed and implemented during the winter semester.
