On July 10th, 2018, Jörg Becker was invited as an expert by the European Parliament (EP) to contribute to the work of the EP committee for internal market and consumer protection (IMCO). In the morning Professor Becker participated in a EP roundtable on the role of independent expertise and science in the legislative process. Acadamics and researchers discussed with members of the European Parliament (MEPs) the importance of independent research and expertise for evidence based policy making.

In the afternoon an IMCO workshop concentrated on the contribution of internal markets and consumer protection to growth. Jörg Becker's contribution focused on modernisation and digitisation of public procurement and its benefits to European public procurement.
