Keywords Modelling; Standardization

The increased pervasiveness of information management theory and the increasing capability of modeling tools led to an increased use of different modeling techniques. Unfortunately these models did not just reduce complexity but led to a considerable degree of complexity by themselves. Therefore the global objective of GoM was to increase the quality of information models.

The project resulted in the development of six guidelines for conceptual modeling, which include correctness, relevance, economic efficiency, clarity, comparability and systematic design. The development of the guidelines was based on an in-depth investigation of the main application purposes of various model user groups. The guidelines were implemented in a software prototype that increased the advantages of the concepts in practice by mapping them to a procedure model. Additionally, the concepts were used for the further development of the ARIS -Toolset software developed by IDS Scheer AG.
