About the Stanford/Elsevier Ranking
The annually published database was established by John P. A. Ioannidis of Stanford University and is published in collaboration with Elsevier. Due to its selection of the world’s leading scientists, it is also known as the ‘Top 2 per cent list’. The ninth edition of the ranking, published on 7 October 2026, is based on Scopus data as at 1 August 2026. It comprises two assessments: one covering the entire academic career and a ranking for 2026.
