Applied Computer Science Award

Sven Ligensa and Dr. Marina Evers are awarded

On November 16, 2023, the Applied Computer Science Award was bestowed for the 18th time.

A jury of nine members from both the university and the local IT industry selected the winners from among eight nominated theses.

After a welcome address by the hostess Ms. Weidner at the premises of the IHK Nord Westfalen, the event featured a laudatory speech by the chairman of the sponsoring organisation of Applied Computer Science, Prof. Dr. Herbert Kuchen, and a presentation by Dr. Stefan Kister from IBM Research on the subject of "Quantum computing - the next big thing?".

Finally, Sven Ligensa was announced as the winner of the award and thus the sponsorship prize of €1,500 with his Bachelor's thesis on "Combining Deep Feature Extraction with Locality-Sensitive Hashing for Reverse Image Search". Dr. Marina Evers' dissertation entitled "Interactive Visual Parameter-Space and Correlation Analysis of Spatio-Temporal Simulation Ensembles" was also recognised by items GmbH as the work with the greatest scientific value and awarded a special prize of €500.
