Experiential Learning with Industry Partners

Tuesday, 25. November 2025 - 12:30 to 13:30, Leo 18

Speakers: Dr. Jeannie Pridmore and Dr. Joy Godin

Abstract: This presentation explores the integration of real-world industry collaboration into academic curriculum through experiential learning initiatives. By partnering with businesses and organizations, higher education can bridge the gap between classroom theory and professional practice. We will examine how industry partnerships enhance student engagement and develop job-ready skills through capstone and consulting projects. Students work directly with industry partners on real world challenges, gaining practical experience and developing their professional network. These partnerships offer mutual benefits: students acquire hands-on experience while industry partners gain innovative solutions and access to talent pipelines. The presentation discusses implementation strategies, best practices for building sustainable partnerships, and methods for assessing learning outcomes. Key challenges are also addressed, including aligning academic timelines with industry needs, ensuring equitable access to opportunities, and maintaining academic rigor. Attendees will gain actionable insights for developing or strengthening experiential learning programs within their institutions.
