Exploring the Boundaries of Digital Product Innovation - The Case of Over-the-Air Technology

Abstract: As an incoming assistant professor at Prof. vom Brocke's chair, I am excited to introduce my past research activities focused on digital product innovation in the automotive domain to the dynamic ERCIS ecosystem. I will specifically discuss a case study I am currently conducting on integrating over-the-air (OTA) technology into vehicles for a German OEM. During my presentation, I will emphasize and analyze the theoretical and practical implications for Information Systems (IS) and management research in digital product innovation and management. Additionally, I will take this opportunity to introduce my upcoming research plans and ongoing activities to the lively ERCIS community.

Short Bio: Thomas holds master's degrees in management from the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM). He pursued his Ph.D. in Information Systems at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Germany, collaborating with Stanford University through the Hasso Plattner Design Thinking Research Program. His doctoral research focused on Porsche AG's integration of Over-the-Air Technology into their cars. As part of his doctoral work, he also spent some time at the MIT Center for Information Systems Research (CISR) in Cambridge, Boston, with whom he has collaborated through a research affiliation ever since. Thomas has practical experience in the automotive industry, e-commerce, and strategy consulting, and he enjoys collaborating with startup teams. When not immersed in digital innovation, you can find him running around lakes, hiking in the mountains, or engaging in a game of Doppelkopf with friends and family. As a notable achievement, he proudly reached the Top 3 of the 11 Freunde Pub quiz in Berlin, admittedly as part of a team with football journalists!
