Title: Business Model Design in Process Industries: Recent Trends and Future Research
Abstract: In this lunchtime seminar, Stephan speaks about his recent research on business models and discuss how digital technologies fundamentally change how firms in process industries, such as chemicals and pharmaceuticals, create, deliver, and capture value in concert with transaction partners. Stephan will highlight (1) the current state of research on business models, (2) what conceptual and empirical challenges research on business models faces, and (3) outline areas of future, cross-disciplinary research on the topic.
Bio: Stephan’s research interests are in entrepreneurial strategies of firms, especially the design of new business models and competition in platform ecosystems. He has published in journals such as Long Range Planning, Journal of Business Research, and Technovation and is co-editor of the practitioner-oriented book “Business Chemistry: How to Build Thriving Businesses in the Chemical Industry” (Wiley). He holds a graduate degree in business chemistry and a doctoral degree from the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Münster, Germany.
