Jens Sieberg, German federal office for information security (BSI): "Keeping pace with Big Knowledge ... Without Drugs"

Tuesday, 3. December 2013 - 12:00 to Friday, 23. May 2025 - 5:49, Leo 18

Abstract: Never before what is considered to be the state of art in a knowledge domain has changed as fast as today. The half-life of knowledge in the computer sciences has been shrinking since the beginning, The availability of big data, machine learning and the increase of computer literacy in other sciences is leading to a shrinking half-life in every knowledge domain. This seminar will explore the use of MOOCs, interactive learning platforms and machine learning to fit the teaching model to the new speed your knowledge needs an update.

Biography: After leaving the DBIS group and the Learnr Project in 2009 MScIS Jens Sieberg became a network administrator in the public sector. Since February 2013 he is working at the German federal office for information security (BSI). He is constantly confronted with inefficient IT-trainings.

Her main research interest is the solution of large-scale dynamic optimization problems using approximate dynamic programming techniques. She applies these methods in revenue management, resource allocation, healthcare services, and production scheduling.  Her thesis was published in the Springer Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems and won several prizes including the dissertation prize of the German Operations Research Society 2007.
