Change to the Information Systems examination regulations 2024

General Information

The new Information Systems Examination Regulations (PO) 2024 came into force at the start of winter term 2024/25.

This new examination regulation will replace the old one in the future. Students who began their studies before the winter semester of 2024/25 can complete their degree under the regulations of their current examination regulation until the end of the winter semester of 2027/28. After that, the remaining students will be automatically transferred to the new examination regulation.

Additionally, students who started their studies before winter 2024/25 have the option to switch to the new examination regulation earlier. On this website, you find all the relevant information.

  • Legal Framework

The examination regulations (ExReg, German Prüfungsordnung, short PO) set out the legally binding framework conditions for the Master's degree program. Upon enrolment, students start their studies in a specific ExReg, which then applies for the entire course of study, unless a change is made.

The expiry regulations of the former examination regulations (ExReg 2018 and former, called the "old" ExReg) have been approved by the Faculty Council and the Rectorate and have been published in February 2025. Thus, the old Examination Regulations are only valid for a transitional period.

Expiry of the old Examination Regulations

    • All students who started in summer semester 24 (last cohort former ExReg) had been offered all modules once (summer 2024, winter 2024/25).
    • Some modules continue to be offered (under a different name) in the new ExReg.
    • Examinations for old ExRegs must be offered till winter semester 2027/28.
    • Last Semester to finish under old ExReg is winter semester 2027/28.
    • After winter semester 2027/28, all remaining students are transferred to the new ExReg 2024.

Introduction of the new Examination Regulations 2024

    • With winter semester 2024/25, the ExReg Master Information Systems 2024 came into force, and is automatically valid for all students starting their studies in winter semester 2024/25 or later.
    • New courses of the ExReg 2024 started in winter 2024/25.
    • A change from the old ExRegs is voluntary and possible on request.

Here you will find the examination regulations and the module handbook for the new (and former) examination regulations: Examination Regulations
Please note that these documents are written in the legal language German.

You can also find all information about the new program structure and the modules here: Structure of the study program

    Required Documents

    • Filled out and signed ExReg change request form (including recognition request and major selection)
    • Current transcript of records. The download from the self service of Flexnow is sufficient.

    Regulated Module Recognition

Completed courses of the old ExReg can be recognized according to the Examination Office’s guidelines and fixed regulations. Therefore, there is no choice regarding the scope and type of module credit transfer. You find more information on recognition regulations for specific modules in the course of this website.

Within the form you need to request the recognition of your completed modules.

    Selection of Major

As part of the new examination regulations for the Master's in Information Systems 2024, a major focus must be chosen. This Major is mandatory and can not be changed. Please consult the program's website for information about the content of the focus area and, if in doubt, make use of the study advisory services.

    Transition Request Deadlines

    • Transition summer semester (2025):   28.02.2025
    • Transition winter semester (2025/26)   31.08.2025

  • How do I decide whether to change the ExReg?

Deciding whether a switch is beneficial is always an individual decision. Here, you can quickly see which aspects you should consider when making your decision.

Staying in Current EXReg Switching to ExReg 2024
+ familiarity with current regulations - new regulations, new program structure may not fit in with the planned curricula
    - occasional lectures are no longer held, only exams are offered + free choice of Major
+ new modules from the new ExReg 2024 can be chosen as electives

+ discontinued modules from the old ExReg can be considered as elective modules

    - strict deadline for completion under current regulations in winter 2027/28

    - in case of considerable progress under former ExReg, delays in course of study may occur,

because new modules still have to be completed

    > FOR STUDENTS WITH CONSIDERABLE ACADEMIC PROGRESS

(E.G., WHO HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED Their Two Tracks),

IT MAY BE MORE ADVANTAGEOUS TO REMAIN IN THEIR CURRENT ExReg.

    > For students who are not far along in their studies

(e.g., have fewer than 45 ECTS),

it is likely more convenient to switch to the new examination regulations.

Please note: The above points only provide a rough guide. If in doubt, please always contact the Study Coordinator Information Systems.
