ERCIS Omni-Channel Lab - powered by Arvato

The ERCIS Omni-Channel Lab, is a research project in collaboration with Arvato CRM Solutions. The Lab combines the academic research and teaching activities of ERCIS and Arvato’s practical experience of delivering tech-enabled Omni-Channel CRM solutions from 110 global locations for many of the world’s best-known brands. Its areas of investigation focus around ‘Processes’, ‘Data’ and ‘Analytics’.

JiTT@OperatingSystems

The project JiTT@OperatingSystems is sponsored by a fellowship for innovation in digital university teaching, awarded by the ministry of innovation, science, and research of North Rhine-Westphalia and Stifterverband and aims for an improved teaching and learning situation of the lecture Operating Systems at WWU Münster. In the course of the project, Just-in-Time-Teaching (JiTT) will be implemented to overcome previously observed shortcomings of classical lectures. As usual for JiTT, reading assignments, warm-up exercises, peer instruction, and exercises in small groups will be combined with instructor feedback in regular class meetings.

Creation of and collaboration on Open Educational Resources (OER)

Open Educational Resources (OER) reduce entry barriers towards educational resources and avoid redundant work when educational resources of high quality are created in different organizations. Adoption of OER faces known challenges, and the ALMS framework provides evaluation criteria for the re-use of OER. This project extends the ALMS framework, provides an infrastructure for the creation of and collaboration on OER, and publishes OER. The infrastructure rests upon a newly developed Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS), called emacs-reveal for the generation of HTML presentations with embedded audio explanations, which are suitable for self-study. The generation of HTML from simple text files (in org mode) takes place in a public GitLab infrastructure, increasing the software’s ease of use. OER are created and improved continuously, since April 2017 in particular for a lecture on Operating Systems. Besides, the infrastructure itself is documented via OER.

Big Data Laboratory

We study the potential of Big Data for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). To this end, we have built a web-based Big Data lab that can be accessed via a browser. Its intention is to help companies as well as research understand the role as well as the implications of Big Data.
