AIS Global Information Systems Education Report: The Global Report of the Association for Information Systems on Information Systems Education 2016

Abstract
This report, the first AIS Global IS Education Report, is an attempt to provide an inte-grated view of information systems (IS) educational offerings around the world. The academic field of Information Systems, which studies the design, use, and impact of IS in organizations, is based on a long-standing tradition that is today more relevant than ever. The digital age connects not only people but also the objects in our everyday lives to the Internet, capturing and exchanging information and facilitating efficient, sustain-able, and enjoyable user experiences. The World Economic Forum 2016 identified com-petencies in IS design and use as key to professional success. While many white-collar jobs are expected to vanish because of automation and fundamental change of work, experts see a significant demand for competencies developed by IS education. The field of IS, as an academic discipline, has developed an impressive collection of edu-cational programs and resources worldwide, but until now there has been no consoli-dated account of such offerings on a global scale. The Association for Information Sys-tems, the main global association for IS academics, has collected and connected such offerings on the Internet platform www.eduglopedia.org. During the first few months of the effort, more than 2,500 courses in more than 550 programs from more than 350 institutions in 70 countries have been registered. These institutions were invited to take part in the this first Global Information Systems Education Report. The data in the report is based on entries to the www.eduglopedia.org platform provided by institu-tions by November 30, 2015, and it includes 567 programs from 72 countries. The col-lection will be updated continually via the www.eduglopedia.org platform, and an up-dated report will be issued each year. We are grateful for the extraordinary support of the IS community. The institutions themselves provided all data. For the first time, we can provide statistics on the various types of offerings, and we are confident that the 2016 report already provides valuable guidance on where and how to acquire competencies in the important area of IS. The report covers all global regions and offerings at the bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. lev-els, including the programs' thematic foci. Since this report is only a start toward bring-ing together the global IS educational offerings, we encourage readers to look at institu-tions' online profiles, which are updated throughout the year.
