Towards a framework for educational university-industry cooperation: Industry perspective

Abstract

Information Systems and Software Engineering are a fast-developing fields of knowledge and, to cope with these changes, universities have to constantly adjust their curriculum according to industry needs. Universities can therefore profit greatly from cooperation with enterprise partners. On the other hand, enterprises are also interested in closer contact with academia, where they can find innovative and commercialize ideas and hire recent graduates.

However, studies still show a discrepancy between industry and education in terms of their perception of what skills are needed. Literature on the topic reports a number of barriers to successful university-industry cooperation set-up. In this paper we try to address these problems by proposing a framework for establishing and managing long-term educational university-industry cooperation in the emerging markets.

The framework was constructed based on the results of a case study of an existing cooperation between an IT service company and a regional university from in the emerging market, and incorporates the industry perspective on the cooperation process.
