Guiding the Digital Transformation of Supply Chains: Development of a Prescriptive Maturity Model
Hellweg, Frauke
Abstract
Digitally transforming the supply chains of companies is as important as it is challenging. Digital technologies provide a plethora of new possibilities, but companies struggle with exploring and exploiting them in a structured manner. To guide the digital transformation of supply chains and support companies in their transformation endeavors, this thesis takes an Information Systems perspective. First, capabilities vital for the digital transformation are discussed. Second, a descriptive maturity model to facilitate the comprehensive assessment of the current state is developed. Third, a prescriptive maturity model is designed to guide the supply chain transformation towards a desired future state. It provides recommendations for action on six maturity levels across sixteen subdimensions. The research results are thoroughly developed and evaluated with various methodologies. The thesis offers a valuable contribution to practitioners and researchers alike.
