Talk "Intro to Kubernetes"

rethink scalable infrastructure with containers
Freitag, 16. Juni 2017 - 16:00 bis Donnerstag, 28. März 2024 - 23:13, Leonardo-Campus 10, R. Leo 2

The WINet is organizing a talk on Kubernetes and the deployment of containerized applications on scalable infrastructures.

Wat do I learn?

  • Get insights into distributed systems and how you can run them yourself.
  • Understand the hype of software containerization.
  • Learn how companies manage gigantic data centers at scale with a small DevOps team.

The talk takes place at 2017-06-16 4 pm in Leo 2 seminar room.

Everybody is invited. If possible, please register at https://www.wi-net.de/intro-kubernetes-rethink-scalable-infrastructure-c... for planning purposes.

Afterwards we'll have a get to gether and (weather permitting) a barbecue.

Abstract: Distributing and deploying software inside (Docker-) containers for security, isolation and ease of use is the new big thing. But once you got all your services nicely wrapped - who takes care of all these containers? Kubernetes, originating from Google, helps you manage containerized applications, as the operating system of your data center, treating hundreds of machines as a single resource pool. This talk introduces the core concepts of Kubernetes, its benefits and its huge ecosystem and gives you an idea of how Google controls parts of their gigantic infrastructure.

Speaker: WINet member Max Inden is a test engineer at CoreOS hacking on Prometheus and its integration with the Kubernetes ecosystem. Previously a front-end engineer working on ReactJS integrations and UI component testing, he decided to stop suppressing his interest for distributed systems at scale and joined CoreOS. Now he implements new testing infrastructures and development automations to support the Prometheus project.
