Evaluation der Benutzerwahrnehmung von BPM Tools – Anwendungsfall icebricks

Business Process Management has already established itself as an important topic in the academia and practice. Nowadays dozens of Business Process Modeling (BPM) tools have been created, which support modeling and analysis of business processes. The choice of a certain BPM tool for a modeling project depends on such factors as tool functionality, supported modeling notation, price and/or tool’s usability characteristics. A newly emerging concept of user experience (UX) can also be seen as an important factor affecting BPM tool choice and acceptance. UX can be defined as perceptions and reactions of a person, resulting from actual and/or expected use of a product, system or service. In comparisson to usability which focus mostly on pracmatic aspects (by measuring user performance and subjective satisfaction), UX consideres the users’ feelings stemming from both pragmatic and hedonic aspects of the system.

Although the concept of UX is relatively new and the exact definition, framework, and elements of UX are still evolving, a number of studies on UX evaluation have already been conducted. The popular methods to measure UX are questionnaires, interviews and focus groups.

The goals of this master/bachelor thesis are to investigate:

  • the importance of measuring UX for the business process modeling tools;
  • the existing UX evaluation methods and their applicability to the area of business process modeling tools.

Examples of freely available questionnaires for UX evaluation can be found on www.attrakdiff.de (AttrakDiff), www.ueq-online.de (User Experience Questionnaire – UEQ).
