Praktiken von Constant Connectivity - Das Phänomen und seine Muster verstehen

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have yielded a workplace freed from spatial and temporal restrictions. Knowledge workers are confronted with the possibility of communicating at every time with their colleagues, clients or managers. This thesis examines and compares patterns of constant connectivity in the working modes of IT consultants at two global operating companies.

Do knowledge workers draw boundaries between work and private life?, How do they control their constant availability if at all?, and What are managerial expectations concerning their availability? are some relevant questions.

The thesis is based on the analysis of ca. 10 semi-structured interviews and the student will be asked to conduct half of them (interview partners will be recruited by the supervisor if wanted). The underlying literature combines studies from areas of information systems, organizational and psychological research.
