Track: Logistics, Production and Retail
Practically every product that reaches a consumer represents the cumulative effort of multiple enterprises. Information Systems play a crucial role in supporting the coordination of all contributing activities when creating products.
In this domain track, you will learn how to apply the knowledge about Information Systems gained during the Bachelor studies and in the other tracks to such fields as logistics, production, and retail.
The lectures
-
Production Planning & Control (Winter Term)
The PPC course elaborates on the management of production processes. The course focuses on central documents, data structures, tools and techniques associated with production processes.
You will learn concepts and methods linked to typical aspects of the manufacturing industry, how to apply these concepts and methods, and how to use IT tools that support PPC tasks in order to create a product of right quality, in right quantity, at right time, and by optimal usage of resources.
Prerequisites:
- There are no programming or implementation tasks included in the lectures.
- Process- and/or data modelling will be part of the lectures. Previous experience is not obligatory, however, good to have.
- It is not necessary to attend the track modules in any specific order.
Preparatory Resources:
- Chapman, S. (2006). The fundamentals of production planning and control: Available in the IS library (WI 78 141 a/b)
- Slack, N., Brandon-Jones, A., Johnston, R. (2013). Essentials of Operations Management: Available in the IS library (WI 70 1272 c)
-
Supply Chain Management & Logistics (Winter Term)
The SCM course elaborates on ensuring efficient logistics in complex networks to synchronize product supply and end user demand. The course focuses on the coordination and optimization of the flows of material, information, and finances between them.
You will learn about different types and structures of supply chains, about procedures and methods for designing, planning, and controlling supply chains, and about IT systems and modelling techniques applied in SCM by working on case studies that involve SCM tools currently used in practice.
Prerequisites:
- There are no programming or implementation tasks included in the module.
- Process modelling will be part of the lecture. Previous experience is not obligatory, however, good to have.
- It is not necessary to attend the track modules in any specific order.

Retail (Summer Term)
The Retail course elaborates on handling the sale of goods and services to customers through multiple distribution channels to make profit. The course focuses on the importance of the retail sector for the economy and presents business processes and data structures according to the Retail-H reference model.
You will learn how to apply domain-specific techniques for process modelling and data modelling. Furthermore, you will learn how to deal with IT-challenges in retail by working on reallife case studies dealing with process management, data modelling, and software selection.
