This course is intended to generate understanding of the philosophical, theoretical, and empirical foundations of social science research on technology in organizations. The course covers a total of 12 paper sessions that are organized in four IM theory domains: strategy theory, IT value theory, organisation theory of IS, as well as the institutionalization of the Information Function. In each of the sessions, one seminal and representative academic paper is discussed. Reading this paper and preparing for its discussion is mandatory to all students. In addition, there are supplementary readings, which provide background to the mandatory texts. They are beneficial yet voluntary reading to the class, while they need to be read and discussed by the groups assigned to the respective sessions.
