On 23rd November 2023, the "Jobhub IT" - the IT career event of the University of Münster - took place.
The "Jobhub IT" is organised by the department of Applied Computer Science under the direction of Prof. Dr. Herbert Kuchen.
Students from IT-related degree programmes had the opportunity to inform themselves about possible internships, final theses in cooperation with companies, jobs as working students and positions for a career start.

On November 16, 2023, the Applied Computer Science Award was bestowed for the 18th time.
A jury of nine members from both the university and the local IT industry selected the winners from among eight nominated theses.
After a welcome address by the hostess Ms. Weidner at the premises of the IHK Nord Westfalen, the event featured a laudatory speech by the chairman of the sponsoring organisation of Applied Computer Science, Prof. Dr. Herbert Kuchen, and a presentation by Dr. Stefan Kister from IBM Research on the subject of "Quantum computing - the next big thing?".
On 24 October 2023, for the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, an excursion took place as part of the "Introduction to Information Systems" lecture. At BASF in Münster-Hiltrup, almost 200 first-semester students gained an in-depth impression of the diverse opportunities for business IT specialists in a large, internationally operating company. The students were able to choose freely between presentations on topics such as the use of AI, agile working methods or process management in paint production.
The bachelor project seminar Leonardo Campus HouseTech dealt with the digitalisation of the institute this semester. Part of the project was the revision of the information displays at the entrances of the building Leonardo-Campus 3. These were given a new design and new functions based on the results of a survey of students and staff of the department. In addition to the new intuitive campus navigation and information about the staff, it is now possible to view the bus timetable, the weather report, the canteen menu and posts of the department’s Instagram account.
The department of Information Systems participates in the Digital Europe project “EBSI-VECTOR”, which started in June with its official kick-off meeting. The project derives from the ongoing digital transformation, which is reshaping various aspects of life and work through strategic reassessment and redesign.
Rector Prof. Dr. Wessels appoints Prof. Dr. Jan vom Brocke as Professor of the University of Münster on June 12, 2023, effective August 1, 2023. The Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, Prof. Dr. Gottfried Vossen, and the Managing Director of the Department of Information Systems, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c.. Jörg Becker, cordially congratulate Prof. Dr. Jan vom Brocke on his appointment earlier this week at Münster Castle. "I am very pleased that we have been able to bring Jan vom Brocke to the University of Muenster School of Business and Economics" said Prof. Dr. Gottfried Vossen.
Our Bachelor's degree program in Information Systems receives excellent ratings in the current university ranking of the "Centre for Higher Education Development"(CHE) and is thereby among the top ranked studies in Germany.
The REACH-EUREGIO Start-Up Center at the WWU organizes an annual ideas competition to promote a start-up-friendly climate at the FH Münster and the WWU. Members of both universities can apply with projects that strengthen the start-up ecosystem and the start-up climate in Münster. These can be, for example, concepts for teaching and networking events, project-related collaborations within the faculties or events by students for students.
The Erasmus+ funded research project "AI-Bility" investigates how schoolchildren interact with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the context of chatbots, voice assistants and robots and how they integrate them into learning activities. The project is in collaboration with the University of Münster, the University of Liechtenstein and the Grenoble Ecole de Management and is supervised and conducted by Dr. Leona Chandra Kruse, Dr.
Lena Clever’s PhD dissertation on "Tackling the Dark Side of Social Media by Automated Content Analysis" was supervised by Prof. Heike Trautmann. She investigated which actors and processes of the dark side of social media can be analysed and detected with automated methods and how the resilience of citizens i.e. exposed to fake news occurring in social media can be strengthened.
