According to the orientation of studies, the student of business information systems is usually able to access extensive knowledge of IC technologies, data processing procedures, architectures and application contexts of IC systems as well as modelling and system development methods when attending the course. In addition, basic knowledge of management from the mandatory business administrative courses is expected. The student of business administration is however assumed to possess more developed knowledge of management. In addition, basic knowledge of IC technologies (computers and networks, hardware and software), the specifics of organisational application systems in different functional areas and industry contexts as well as the use of models and architectures in business information systems is expected. This knowledge is imparted in the courses “Basics of Information Systems", “Basics of the Application of Information Systems", and “Information and Communication Systems" in the studies of business administration. The students of business administration who chose “Information Systems" as mandatory course are furthermore recommended to attend the obligatory course “Data Management" as well as the courses “Software Engineering I" or “Application Systems" before attending the course Information Management. The preparatory course conveys a basic understanding of the different elements of organisational information processing and the tasks that are performed in connection to this. Information technology, information systems, and also the offer of information are introduced as essential elements. The objective of (information) management is to ensure an effective application of these elements for organisational information and communication.
