Objectives |
The lecture concentrates on interorganisational systems and business networks, aiming to explore the contingencies and strategies that lie behind the evolution of IOS, networking and new e-commerce business cases.
Drawing on case examples as well as theoretical concepts, the configuration and management of networks as well as the design and implications of IOS will be discussed from various perspectives, such as strategic management, organization theory, information management and IS development.
Specifically, the course will explore examples of interorganisational information systems (IOIS) in the healthcare sector.
Tentative Course Content |
The course consists of two parts. The lecture focuses on the following topics:
| Introduction | Understanding the increasing role of networks, critical reflection of the transformation of industrial organisation |
| Networks & IOS | Strategic rationale for networking and the role of technology |
| Standards | The role and diffusion of standards for IOS |
| Theory | Explaining the proliferation of networks from different theoretical perspectives |
| Network management | The specifics of managing a network environment |
| Electronic Business | Technology driven business innovation |
