From West Coast to Westphalia
Dr.-Ing. Rainer Böhme was appointed as Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessor) for IT Security at University of Münster's Department of Information Systems on September 1st, 2010. Therefore Dr. Böhme moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to the city of Münster in Germany. Prior to this position, he worked as Postdoctoral Fellow at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, California. Dr. Böhme's research interests include economics of information security and privacy as well as multimedia security. A common thread in his scientific work is the interdisciplinary approach to solve pressing IT security problems.

Workshop on the Economics of Information Security

Berkeley, Cambridge, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard twice, ... in its 11th year, the renowned Workshop on the Economics of Information Security goes to Berlin and thus for the first time to continental Europe. Rainer Böhme is proud to organize the event jointly with Gert G. Wagner and Nicola Jentzsch of DIW Berlin, an economic research institute. The workshop will take place in the Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences located in the heart of downtown Berlin on 25-26 June 2012. The paper submission deadline is 24 February 2012. Matthias Kirchner is our outpost in California
Shortly after defending his doctoral thesis, Matthias Kirchner moved on for a post-doctoral position at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, sponsored by a DAAD fellowship. His research is focussed on novel signal-processing techniques to detect manipulations in digital images if they involve or interfere with resampling operations. Matthias Kirchner also acts as program chair of the 14th edition of the Information Hiding Conference, the leading scholarly venue in the area of multimedia security.
