The use of web technology pervades the working routine. With the so called Web 2.0, content of web applications is generated by its users. Some of the new techniques and business processes enabled by them have proven to be of high value. Applications show that both an increased efficiency and a higher effectivity are achievable. However, this does not yet apply to all disciplines. We have adopted Web 2.0 techniques to imple-ment a Wiki-based dictionary, the Gestikon, for linguists, particularly translators. With this article we give an introduction to the specific topic and our research. We comprehensively sketch current approaches in the field of translation. Furthermore, we explain the relevant linguistic background before describing our tool in detail. To prove the feasibility of our approach, we show the tool’s usage and present initial experiences. We conclude by suggesting similar approaches for further fields of research.
