Software testing is an important part of the development process. It is essential for producing software of high quality. However, testing is seen as a cumbersome and costly task and even with testing many software development projects fail. In a joint project with local companies we analyzed the status quo of software testing. Semi-structured expert-interviews were conducted. We suggest that understanding how software is tested in companies will help to improve testing and to cut down costs. In this work we describe the project's background and sketch our research method. We then present the detailed results of the qualitative analysis along with notable comments from the participants. Results are generalized and discussed in order to induce general findings.
