Resarch interest: Parallel Programming with Algorithmic Skeletons

Computer programms not only consist of sequential instructions, but can merely be seen as a system of parallel processes. Today, parallel programming is typically based on low-level concepts such as passing messages. Therefore, the development of a parallel application is complex, expensive, and error-prone. In order to reduce costs and to simplify the development, high-level concepts are needed. Our research focuses on so-called algorithmic skeletons which can best be described as typical parallel computation patterns. Using skeletons is both easy and safe, such that parallel programming is raised to a higher level of abstraction. Developing a parallel appliation is therefore reduced to combining several skeletons, which leads to efficient implementations.
