Beschreibung

Today’s companies are faced with the challenge of allocating production, transportation and inventory resources in order to strengthen themselves against increasing competition among markets and to satisfy increasing demand for customized products among customers. One possibility to tackle these problems is to form global network structures, called supply chains, where several participants take over special value adding tasks.
For managing supply chains an amount of concepts exist. Each of these concepts may lead to significant cost reduction and higher service levels.

But the same concept does not work for different customers and their diverse needs. Thus, a “one size fits it all” supply chain cannot lead to success. The key to overcome this obstacle is the concept of hybrid supply chains, where supply chains exist of lean as well as agile parts.
In the seminar “Hybrid Supply Chains”, the students shall work out different concepts dealing with hybrid supply chains. Some of the questions discussed in the scope of the seminar are: “What are influencing factors on hybrid supply chains?”, “How can lean and agile parts of the supply chain be defined?”, “What impact does a defined lean and agile part of a supply chain on inventory policies have?” and “How can qualitative influencing factors be quantified?”
These and similar questions are processed by the students in form of delimited, individual seminar theses. The results have to be presented and discussed in front of the class.
