Beschreibung
The project seminar Models and Instruments for Measuring and Improving Supply Chain Flexibility (FlexChain) deals with the theoretical foundation of flexibility concepts in supply chain management (SCM) and their application in practice. The general idea of increasing a supply chain´s flexibility is to enhance its performance in pro-actively changing its operations or reacting to unforeseen environmental progresses that affect its operations. However, the different facets of flexibility shall be respected in this project. For instance, volume flexibility refers to the ability of changing output quantities, and its performance may be measured in terms of the extent of an unforeseen variation in demand that the supply chain is able cope with.
The practical context is set by cooperating with a manufacturing company whose supply chain is to be analyzed and to be made more flexible. The project partner provides real historical and up-to-date information about their supply chain structure and operations. In this way, the flexibility concepts shall be validated with regard to their practical applicability and the company in turn could be advised with well-grounded suggestions to improve their flexibility.
