Die Veranstaltung Information Systems Architecture vermittelt Erkenntnisse und Methoden einer ganzheitlichen Sicht auf Informationssysteme. Auf der Grundlage einer weiten Auslegung des Informationssystembegriffs wird die Notwendigkeit von Architekturen für eine effektive Planung und Steuerung komplexer Organisationen motiviert. Informationssystem- bzw. Unternehmensarchitekturen fördern bei konsistenter Anwendung das Verständnis der Zusammenhänge zwischen Unternehmensentitäten und helfen, deren Ergebnisbeiträge zu übergeordneten Unternehmenszielen aufzudecken. Eine IS-Architektur wird somit als ein kohärentes Gesamtsystem von Prinzipien, Methoden und Modellen verstanden, das zu einer zielkongruenten Gestaltung und Realisierung der Organisationsstrukturen, Geschäftsprozesse, Informationssysteme (i.e.S.) und Infrastruktur beiträgt.

Die Vorlesung hat das Ziel, grundlegende Fähigkeiten zur Entwicklung und Realisierung von Informationssystemarchitekturen zu vermitteln. Nach einer allgemeinen Einführung in das Thema werden aktuelle Entwicklungen, Methoden und Frameworks zur Umsetzung von Unternehmensarchitekturen präsentiert. Im zweiten Teil der Vorlesung wird anhand einer eingehenden Betrachtung zweier Architekturframeworks die konkrete Implementierung von Unternehmensarchitekturen dargestellt. Die Fähigkeiten zur praktischen Anwendung der erlernten Methoden werden durch Fallstudienbearbeitung sowie Präsentation der Ergebnisse gefördert.

Für Wirtschaftsinformatiker ist die Veranstaltung Bestandteil des Master-Studiengangs.

Description

The course “Information Systems Architecture” provides insights into and methods of a holistic view on information systems. The need for architecture in complex organizations is motivated by a wide interpretation of information systems. Architecture supports the effective planning and governance of enterprises: consistently implemented, it facilitates the understanding of business entities’ interrelationships and helps to explicate their contribution to superior enterprise goals. Thus Information Systems Architecture is understood as a coherent whole of principles, methods and models that are used in the design and realization of an enterprise’s organizational structure, business processes, information systems (in the narrower sense) and infrastructure.

The students’ ability to develop and implement Information System Architectures is the course’s major goal. After introducing the subject, current developments, methods and frameworks in the domain of architecture implementation will be presented. The concrete architecture realization process will be underlined by the study of two architecture frameworks. Furthermore, practical skills in architecture development will be gained by work on case studies and presentation of the results.

This course is part of the module “Theories and Architectures” in the Master of Information Systems.
